Fallen

(for Mother's Day - Memorial Day 2014)

Fallen

Her tears fall down
Down upon the grave
Down to the greening grass
Like dew in the morning
Screaming as a last
Good-bye.

Her tears fall down
Down from eyes that saw
When first her son was born
And all was beautiful
Crying as his first
Hello.

Her tears fall down
Down upon a flag
Down to the clean white cross
Marking him a hero
Weeping for her son
Fallen.

Her tears fall down
Down to the hard truth
Has he made a difference
Are we more free, secure
Questioning his death
And war.

Her tears fall down
Down upon her breast
Where first he was at home
The volley shots and taps
Like thunder in the spring
Linger.

Her tears fall down
Down to bring her low
Where mothers go alone
To find the One who knows
The dying of a Son
Risen.
