PT Finance Director | Lakeville
Messiah Lutheran Church in Lakeville, MN (LCMS) is seeking a skilled and mission-minded Finance Director to oversee the financial operations of our growing congregation. This part-time leadership role is ideal for a finance professional who desires to use their gifts in service to Christ and His Church.
The Finance Director serves as a key advisor to church leadership and ensures faithful stewardship, financial integrity, and transparent reporting in support of Messiah’s ministry and mission.

Position Overview
The Finance Director provides oversight of all financial administration for the congregation, including cash flow management, account reconciliation, financial reporting, budgeting, and payroll oversight. This role works closely with the Church Council, Executive Committee, Parish Administrator, and Treasurer.
This is a 20-hour per week position with flexible scheduling. Start Date: April/May 2026

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership
• Manage cash flow to ensure adequate funds for day-to-day ministry operations.
• Monitor and manage church bank accounts, savings, investments, endowments, restricted funds, and capital accounts.
• Reconcile all accounts monthly and quarterly as necessary.
• Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports, including:
o Income & Expense (P&L) statements
o Balance Sheet
o Cash flow reporting
o Attendance and financial summaries (as required)
• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with ministry leaders and church leadership.
• Support capital campaigns and stewardship initiatives.
• Ensure financial practices comply with nonprofit accounting standards.
Administrative & Council Support
• Attend Church Council and Voters’ Meetings in an advisory role.
• Prepare financial presentation materials for leadership and congregation.
• Assist building or renovation committees with financial planning and reporting.
Personnel & Payroll Oversight
• Oversee payroll administration and employee benefits coordination.
• Assist with onboarding and training of financial support staff as needed.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
• Relevant experience in accounting, financial management, or nonprofit finance.
• Strong understanding of cash flow management and financial reporting.
• Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
• High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality.
Experience in church or nonprofit financial administration is strongly preferred.
