The Lenten Season is upon us, merciful Lord, and once again we are made aware of the enormity of our sin and guilt that brought You to this earth and nailed You to the cross. This year, as we watch, and listen, and learn about Your journey toward Golgotha, impress on us how fortunate we are that You love us so much to be willing and able to do all that You did for us and for our salvation. We are humbled by Your grace, and grateful for Your sacrifice on our behalf. Amen.
What do they think, precious Lord, when we worship You on Wednesday nights? What do they think when they see us drive off into the dark on cold and miserable evenings in order to gather in our church buildings and remember Your holy passion? What do those outside the church think when, during Lent, they see us add another weekly event to our already packed schedules? It may be that they admire our piety. It may be they envy our devotion. It may be they desire a similar relationship with You. But probably not, because even though our actions do say something, they usually do not say enough for the lost people around us to get “it,” that is…to get “You.” So help us at all times to be ready and willing to speak winsomely and act cordially around the people who don’t know You yet. May the witness we give be a blessing to many. In Your Name we ask it. Amen.
Praise to the Name of God forever and ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him. Amen.
