2018 Leadership Summits

March 24, 2018
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Owatonna
April 14, 2018
South Shore Trinity Lutheran Church, White Bear Lake

In the past, the doors of the church opened inward, but now the people of our communities are no longer coming in through our doors as they once did. Approximately 78 percent of LCMS congregations have reached a plateau or are declining while, at the same time, the number of people claiming little or no connection to God through His Son, Jesus is rapidly growing. God is calling the church to open our doors outward as the people of God seek to establish connections, form relationships, and invite new disciples of Jesus into life focused on His good gifts.

Hinges: Opening Your Church’s Doors to the Community will be the focus of our Spring 2018 Leadership Summits. We are offering these summits in two locations: Good Shepherd, Owatonna on March 24, and South Shore Trinity, White Bear Lake on April 14. Each summit will run from 8:30am-2pm. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Prior to the March 24 or April 14 events, each participating congregation will be invited to participate in a self-administered Hinge Factors Assessment Survey connected with the book. Using the feedback provided by members through this survey, congregation leaders will receive a customized Hinge Factor Report to enhance their preparation for and learning at the Leadership Summit. While it is not necessary to complete the Hinge Factors Assessment Survey to attend the Leadership Summit, the insights provided in the customized report can be valuable resources as your leadership team explores possible next steps in creating community connections.

Use the form below to register your congregation for one of the two summits. You can also use this form to order copies of Hinges and the Hinge Factors Assessment Survey. The book is available at a reduced cost to congregations attending this summit; the survey is FREE. In addition, we do have grants available if your congregation if you cannot afford to purchase the books or survey. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Phillip Johnson at the MNS District office at phillip.johnson@mnsdistrict.org or 952-223-2161.

Join us to learn with other congregations from across our district about some practical steps for beginning, increasing, or continuing activities that convey the spiritual vitality of Word and Sacrament ministry through your congregation for the sake of your community.
